
Professor Waltz holds a master’s degree in education from the Université de Moncton, a bachelor’s degree in music from the Faculty of Music of the Université de Montréal, a master’s degree in music theory from the University of Western Ontario and a PhD in musicology from the Laval University.
In his 36-year career in the Department of Music at the University of Moncton, Professor Waltz has devoted himself to supporting the careers of young professional Canadian musicians and to promoting classical music in general. Director of the department three times, he taught piano, music theory, writing techniques, musical analysis and composition. He founded and directed the instrumental jazz ensemble Opus 006 and the jazz choir KIZUM.
Professor Waltz is the founding director of the Center Jeunesses Musicales Canada Moncton. He also sits on the national council of Jeunesses Musicales Canada.
In 2004, he took over as director of the Neil-Michaud Choir, which he held for 12 years. This choir has toured extensively in Europe, Cuba, the United States and Canada.
Among many awards, he was the recipient of the Capitol Theater Proscenium Award in 2014 and received the Queen Elizabeth II 60th Birthday Medal.
